Currently I’m driving a Hyundai i40 1.6 Gdi stationwagon as a leasing car. This Hyundai has a builtin navigation system built by LG. For this system once in a while a software upgrade is released. Yesterday evening I have applied version 7.4.5. On the internet I haven’t found an official or unofficial changelog for this version, but I found some myself. The most important is a Map care mode. Normally this blog creates postings in Dutch language. Though I expect I might get some traffic on this post from abroad. For that reason I wrote it in English.
UPDATE 20 January 2015: Hyundai has released a newer version than 7.4.5. See this posting for more information about this new 7.5.8 version.
– Upgrade bluetooth version from 3.1.4 to 3.1.5
– Map care screen in dealer mode
See further in this posting for details about the last change.
LG system builtin
The same system as installed in i40 (with some slight changes in theming) is applied on several other car models:
– Hyundai i30
– Hyundai ix35
– Hyundai ix20
– Hyundai Santa Fe
– Hyundai Veloster (European version)
– Kia cee’d
– Kia Optima
– Kia Rio
– Kia Sorento
– Kia Sportage
– Kia Venga
Enabling software upgrade
The software (and map) upgrades are made available on a specific site. This upgrade could be done by the official dealer, but if you have some guts, time and an USB stick with more than 1gb you could do it yourself.
For Kia the software upgrades are hosted on this site: http://www.navigation.com/kia
For Hyundai the software upgrades are hosted on this site: http://www.navigation.com/hyundai
The download contains a ZIP file which should be uninstalled on a formatted USB-stick. You insert the USB-stick into USB-connection in your car and start engine. Total download of the firmware from USB to LG system and complete the upgrade will take 30 minutes.
In my case I upgraded the system from to 7.4.5
Hidden in the navigation system there is a so-called test mode. In this test mode a new button/screen is introduced: Map care mode
I have created a short video in 2012 how to enable this test mode:
In short the steps are the following (for i40):
With test mode you are able to view some technical details about the running navigation system in various tabs. The most interesting I use sometimes is the current speed according to GPS, available in tab Navigation:
Map care mode
In 7.4.5 in test mode I noticed a new button on tab Radio:
When pushing this MapCare button another screen is shown:
When first entered the screen Map Care Mode, less information was shown. The options PDI and Dealer were having the state OFF. Of course I pushed them, now they are enabled….
Now I’m wondering whether this Map Care Mode could be of any help in updating maps on my system! Maybe some clever guy could have a look on this.
Another Change? Zoom-level button
There is another change I’m not completely certain about. In navigation mode in right below corner there is a button for zoomlevel . Normally I always have Automatic zoom as default:
When I pushed this button in previous versions, immediately the zoom-level menu was shown:
From 7.4.5 I noticed some change, but I’m not completely certain. When you push the button in state “automatic zoom” the state is changed to “non-automatic zoom”. Another push on the button opens the menu:
Can someone confirm or deny if this a change between 7.4.5 and previous versions?
